If you decide not to make your own Hook a Duck game then there are a number of sets and kits available to you – although not as many as I would like!

ToggleBest Budget Options
When you are not looking to break the bank then here are two cheap and cheerful set’s I think you should consider.
While these options offer great value for money, please keep in mind that the ducks and rods are made from lightweight plastic – they are not built to last. Occasional fun is the name of the game! The rods will likely break long before the ducks find themselves in any danger so it may be best to have a stick (replacement rod) on hand to avoid disappointment.
My Top Pick - 10 piece set from Chenkee
From the rod handle to the mini duck shaped duck pond I have to give them credit for their attention to detail. You get 7 ducks in total that come in two different sizes but the inclusion of the net and the little duck pool make this set stand out and provide greater variety and opportunity for gameplay. The rod works well enough and the large hooks on the duck heads are simple to catch making this a great choice for younger players. |
Runner Up – 5 piece Hook a Duck set
Cheap and colourful with a lovely low price point. The five different sized ducks are decent but the rod can be a little dodgy and is prone to a quick breakage. The circular hooks on the duck make them harder to grab but if you are looking to improve hand eye coordination then this could be a good choice. This is a good seller on Amazon with the majority of buyers being happy with their purchase. Note: Although the image on the Amazon listing shows two sets you only get one. |
Best Built to Last Option
If you are looking for something sturdier – a game for more frequent use – perhaps a game for the more boisterous amongst us – then say Hello Ducky! The Ducky Fishing Game from Janod is delightful and engaging. The materials are high quality, the colours are lovely and vibrant and the inclusion of a zip bag makes this game easy to store and transport. The 6 stylish ducks come in different colours and they can blow water for even greater amusement. The hooks are solid and the two rods are made from oak with handle grips in different colours. This Hook a Duck set from Janod is well made, well designed and should last you a long time. |
Best Complete Game
To get a fuller fairground experience then I recommend the electronic Go Fishing Hook-a-Duck game from SGM. With moving water and optional music this game is a feast of sound and sight that will be a delight for any child. With different coloured ducks it’s vibrant, it’s noisy and it’s messy – what more could children ask for. It’s straightforward to set up and to get started but the only gripe I have is that occasionally the ducks like to congregate in a corner for a little conflab – a little prod will get them on their merry way again. It really is great entertainment for not a lot of money. |
Best Magnetic Set
Jacques are known for making quality games and this magnetic Hook a Duck set is no exception. The cardboard pond is sturdy and durable with lovely bright colours and a useful carry handle. You get 2 fishing rods, wooden ducks and number cards making it educational along with the hand eye co-ordination benefits that come with all Hook a Duck Games. The magnets are securely attached to the ducks and the connections are strong making the ‘catch’ nice and easy. There are no batteries and no water making this a simple, clean and fun game that can be played anywhere. |
Hook a Duck is a timeless fairground favourite that’s just as fun at home. Whether you’re planning a party, setting up a stall, or simply adding some classic fun to the garden, the right setup makes all the difference.
